The room temperature was already dropped to 28 °C within 8 minutes. I was also a little worried that the high-speed fan would be annoying at the early cooling stage, but the indoor unit made only 31 dB, which is significantly lower than the majority of competitors at full power.

After approximately 14 minutes, the room had cooled to 24 °C and the compressor automatically reduced to a lower capacity mode. The change was gradual and there was no abrupt rush of warm air as is the case with non-inverter ACs when the compressor switches on and off.

I was also greatly impressed by the speed of cooling the room by the LG, it took less than 15 minutes to have a cool room that was using much less energy than it would have been using full capacity. I also did not have the AC running on a pre-cooling mode but it still lowered the room temperature more quickly than a traditional 1.5 Ton AC would have, which demonstrates that dual inverter compressors do save energy and time.

On the contrary, I chose to switch gears. Instead, I have chosen the 60% mode that has got a comfortable balance between cooling and energy use. It took 10 minutes to stabilise the room temperature to 25 °C.

This worked perfectly. Following the use of the AC at the 100 percent capacity level during the night, the use of the AC at this mode resulted in lower energy consumption when compared to using the AC under the 100% capacity. MirAIe app custom sleep profile provided me with the ability to programme the hourly changes in temperature settings, and the ability to change between temperatures was so gradual that I did not wake up even once at night.

Crystal Clean is a considerate feature. The self-cleaning process properly spends only 15 minutes and freezes up moisture on the evaporation coil after which it defrosts, washing off the built up dust and bacteria. I have applied this feature one time in a week when the weather was monsoon and the indoor unit remained incredibly fresh with no musty scent that is usual with the ACs in rainy months.

Nevertheless, the level of noise is also significant killer. When the fan is running at top velocity, the inside unit reaches 46 dB, and this is clearly heard in a quiet bedroom. Particular mention should be made of the turbo cool technology. Then one day when the outdoors temperature was an especially scorching 45 °C, I switched on the turbo mode. It lacks manual convertible modes. Rather, the compressor at Daikin will adjust tonnage and fan speed according to its occupancy, room size and temperature. Daikin has a high speed cooling which is called Powerchill operation. It uses half the normal mode power to chill the room since it uses the compressor and fans at the full capacity. I set the AC to power chill on a 38°C afternoon and the room temperature dropped from 35°C to 24°C in about 14 minutes. The PM 2.5 filter traps fine particles, though it’s not as fine as Panasonic’s PM 0.1 filter. For most urban Indian homes, a PM 2.5 filter is adequate. One factor that worried me when conducting testing was the level of noise. When the fan is working fast the indoor unit reaches 44 dB, and it is definitely heard in a rather quiet bedroom.
